Rewriting traditional songs

With : Clémence COGNET et Noéllie NIOULOU ( Garenne )

WHERE : Tapis Volant Room 4

WHEN : Saturday 14h – 16h

Description: Our traditional songs don’t always have lyrics that reflect current trends. To keep them alive and adapt them to the challenges of our time, Clémence and Noëllie are offering a workshop to explore rewriting a song. You can bring a song of your choice to work on. Otherwise, the facilitators will suggest some. A little singing will also be included in the workshop.

Prerequisite level: None

Biography :
• Clémence: Raised on traditional music, she began playing at a very young age, jamming and playing at dances with the association “Les Brayauds.” She has performed with Komred, L’Armoire Bleue, Les Poufs’à Cordes/Garenne, LamZé, and Babayaga. She holds a DEM (Diploma of Musical Studies) in violin from the conservatory and a DE (State Diploma) in violin teaching. Passionate about traditional music and dance, she continues to perform them today and is beginning to teach and share them through lessons, workshops, and masterclasses.

• Noéllie: Since childhood, she has been immersed in the folk music and dance traditions of the Charollais/Brionnais region, thanks to her musician parents, who are involved in collecting musicians from this area. She plays the cello, then the violin (self-taught), and the bass viol. She is deeply involved in the repertoire of fiddlers. Her love of early music, as well as contemporary music and improvisation, has allowed her to develop a rich musical palette, which she uses in various dance and concert ensembles. In 2021, she joined the all-female musicians’ collective “La Crue”.
