- Description: How to make your voice dance? In this workshop, we will work on a traditional Languedoc song in Occitan, linked to a specific dance. We will explore the rhythmic characteristics of the piece and the possible variations to make your voice “dance.” We will also work on vocal tone and posture related to folk singing, as well as phrasing in relation to the accentuations of the language and the specific mode of the piece. Particular attention will also be paid to the group sound to allow participants to benefit from the collective space, experience the ensemble sound, and learn from each other’s voices.
- Prerequisites: Open to all, oral transmission, no prior knowledge of music theory required.
Biography: Aëlis Loddo is an Occitan-speaking musician, singer, composer, and performer. She specializes in Occitan music, contributing to the preservation and dissemination of this cultural heritage. As a violinist, she explores traditional repertoires, particularly those of Languedoc, focusing on elements such as phrasing, ornamentation, and bowing techniques related to dance. Her activities include teaching and leading music workshops, where she offers an oral approach to learning for musicians with advanced experience on the violin or viola. She works on pieces for dancing, emphasizing the different instrumental timbres in ensemble settings, and explores themes that connect music to traditional dance. Aëlis Loddo is also involved in vocal and percussive projects, such as duets in the Occitan language, which evoke the musical roots of the Occitan regions and their transmission. Her compositions and performances contribute to the vitality of the contemporary Occitan music scene, integrating traditional elements while fostering a collective and educational approach. Her career encompasses performances and collaborations that underscore the importance of language and oral traditions in music.
